This product is a high-purity, clear to slight-yellow liquid solution with no significant odor.
Calcium nitrate tetrahydrate is a colorless salt with a molecular formula of Ca(NO3)2•4H2O. The chemical formula can also be written as (Ca(NO3)2•4H2O). It also has the chemical name calcium nitrate.
Calcium Nitrate Tetrahydrate plays an important role in many industries, including:
Concrete
Calcium nitrate is used as an additive to accelerate concrete set up time. It is used with concrete and mortar to accelerate the formation of calcium hydroxide, which leads to faster precipitation and setting, as well as to reduce corrosion by forming a protective layer of iron hydroxide.
Waste Water Treatment
Calcium nitrate tetrahydrate is also used in wastewater treatment plants to remove nitrogen from the waste water. The calcium nitrate reacts with the nitrogen gas and forms calcium nitrite which can then be removed from the water using ion exchange resins or by precipitation with lime sludge. In this way, the nitrogen can be recycled for use as fertilizer or converted into fertilizer using anaerobic digestion processes so that no methane emissions occur from landfills where waste products are disposed of without being treated first (e.g., landfills located near farms).
